FAQ

Which is better- a manual or sonic electric toothbrush?

Actually, floss is by far the best.  As for toothbrushes, both will do a good job of removing plaque if used properly.  A manual brush needs to be angled towards the gums at the gumline, then massaged in small circular motions like you’re trying to work the bristles into the space between the tooth and the gums.  A sonic brush needs to be held gently (fingertips only) at the gumline with no pressure and no movement for 2-3 seconds in each spot.  If you push a sonic brush too hard or move it too much, you don’t give it a chance to do its thing, and you turn it into a very expensive manual brush!

Is it better to brush or floss first?

Either way is fine.  The most important thing is that you are doing both!  For more info, go to our blog.

Can xylitol gum help prevent tooth decay?

Yes, but you need to chew 1-2 grams, 4-6 times every day.  Over the counter gums don’t have enough xylitol in them to be effective.  You can buy gum with 1 gm per stick online.  For more info, see this blog.
